10 commonest causes of roadside
breakdown
8 Dec 2010
by Donald MacKenzie
According to a list compiled by the AA, the ten most common
causes of car breakdown are as follows:
- flat or faulty battery
- lost keys
- flat or damaged tyres
or wheels
- alternator faults
- starter motor problems
- distributor cap
problems
- fuel problems
- clutch cables
- spark plugs
- HT leads
Our next few blogs (links above) will look at all of
these individually in more detail as very often simple maintenance
checks and procedures can easily prevent or rectify these common causes
of a roadside breakdown removing the need to consult a mechanic or
breakdown patrolman.
A quick glance through our blog posts on these topics could save you
considerable inconvenience or potential cost later as well as provide
you with a more sophisiticated approach to routine checks that might
prevent future breakdowns.
You can follow any of the above links for more or indeed review our blog index for a fuller range of useful
car-related topics.
It is surprising, in fact, the simplicity of many of the faults that
lead to call-outs for roadside rescue services - an indication of how
often they could be avoided by greater prudence and the application of
basic checks by motorists.
