Top 10 most popular new cars
20 Jan 2012
Unsurprisingly given the current economic climate and high cost of
motoring, the numbers of new cars sold in 2011 dropped. But which
motors proved the most popular new car buys with UK consumers?
According to data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and
Traders (SMMT), the top ten best-sellers of 2011 were dominated by
Ford, the full top 10 listing being as follows:

Most of these cars are superminis. Indeed almost half of all new car
registrations in 2011 were superminis. Again, an obvious consequence of
rising motoring costs is to buy more economic vehicles to run.
When it comes to the best superminis in terms of their reliability, the
picture is slightly different as we reported recently: Which
are the most reliable superminis?
Of the cars listed above, the Fiat 500 POP is the cheapest (albeit in
the context of ever-rising car insurance prices) for a brand new driver
to insure according to research we reported earlier: Cost
of new driver insurance for popular first cars doubles.
