Car Insurance Buyers Guide:
Multi-car options
Because price comparison sites work
on a car by car basis, they are not configured to provide multi-car
quotes. That does not mean that they are not a good resource for those
with more than one car - they are still likely to find some great deals
- but there is no opportunity to benefit from a discount by insuring
two or more cars with the same car insurance
provider.
Most car insurance companies, when you approach them directly, will
offer discounts for a second or further cars. Some offer tailored
multi-car policies, of which Admiral
MultiCar is the most
popular in the UK with savings of almost a quarter when you insure your
second car with them.
Their standard car insurance policy features, which you get with the
multi-car policy, are attractive and you can review them on our
dedicated 'Admiral Insurance' page, where you can also access Admiral
multi-car insurance: Admiral car insurance.
With the Admiral multi-car policy, they also handle no claims discounts
on a named-driver basis; so, if one crashes, the other will still
maintain their no claims discount.
At present, car insurance companies are struggling to balance their
books with most recording a loss of over 20% in 2010. It was the high
uptake of the Admiral multi-car policy that allowed Admiral to buck
this trend and record a profit in 2010.
Those wanting to compare Admiral multi-car insurance to other quotes
may wish to enter their cars individually into a price comaprison
system to see which total is cheaper. Do bear in mind, of course, that
you get what you pay for and the Admiral multi-car policy has many
attractive features, even if you do manage to undercut it slightly via
a price comparison site.
