Car Insurance Third Party at the Car Insurance
UK Supermarket
-
Also referred to as: Car Insurance Third Party, Fire and Theft
This category of
motor insurance covers you when your vehicle is either stolen or it is
damaged by fire. If you are responsible for
damage to another vehicle or person(s), you are also covered to meet
the cost of their losses.
Injury
to yourself or damage to your own vehicle is not covered when you
choose car insurance third party. If
you were not at fault, however, you would aim to claim these costs back
from the
insurance cover of the driver that caused the accident.
While car insurance third party
cover costs less and can be considered for an older vehicle of low
value,
comprehensive cover is a safer option, partly due to the high number of
uninsured motorists in the UK.
Even
for an old vehicle, where 'writing off' the car is not a particular
problem financially, car insurance third
party can still confer some risk onto the driver and any passengers in
the vehicle. As well as the lack
of cover for damage to your own vehicle if the fault is with the
insured driver, should an
uninsurered motorist cause the accident, then the driver,
and any others in your vehicle will not be covered for any losses.
As there are over a million uninsured drivers in the UK, the latter
scenario is not as unlikely an event as you may imagine.
Even if you
pride yourself on your safe driving, you never know what could be
around the corner. Car insurance third party, then, even for an ancient
car, carries some risk with it.
Should you determine that car insurance third party remains right for
you, you can select this option on most car insurance forms accessed
via the 'direct' link above as an alternative to fully comprehensive
cover.
Generally, it works best if you go direct rather than via a price
comparison site if you aim to purchase car insurance third party, fire
and theft. This is because price comparison sites are set up to compare
fully comprehensive quotes and mostly don't offer the option of car
insurance third party cover.
Do bear in mind, however, that a direct insurer's car insurance third
party premium may well be more expensive than fully comprehensive cover
from another insurance provider, particularly one identifed as the best
of 1000s of prices via a price comparison service.
Given that comprehensive cover, for the reasons outlined above, is a
better choice, routine use of a price comparison site and ignoring any
theoretical advantages of car insurance third party cover, is generally
a good choice.
