How best to find car insurance UK online
It's big business. Just about
everyone uses insurance services of one sort or another. And
competition between insurance providers is intense, which benefits
consumers. In fact, car
insurance UK is one of the most competitive markets of any
financial sector, worldwide!
What are the implications of this? Well, for a start, the UK obsession
with always choosing to compare
car insurance is misplaced. Normal market forces see to it that for
similar car insurance UK products from the leading providers, prices
vary little. To command large shares of a competitive market, you have
to provide value for money; so, actually, when you take the time to
compare like for like policies (which price comparison sites do not do)
this can be demonstrated.
The point here is that if you buy cover from leading car insurance UK
providers - that is, if you go direct to them as opposed to finding
quotes via a price comparison site - you should not assume that you are
paying too much for the cover you get, just because you don't have lots
of other prices to compare.
But surely it makes better sense to get the best deals through a price
comparison site, doesn't it? Actually, no. Here's why. All the best car
insurance UK results generated by a price comparison site are (by
definition) clustered at the budget end of the spectrum. If you are
looking for a bit more from your cover, price comparison sites don't
make it easy to find such policies or to compare like with like if you
do.
Should you have a desire for more than a basic level of cover as
standard - something we would always advise - going direct to market
leading car insurance UK companies becomes a better choice. Not only do
you get a quality product, you get all the policy information you need,
the reassurance of a household name brand, and the market-driven
reassurance that the price you pay for the level of cover selected will
be competitive as, by commercial necessity, it will be the going market
rate for that type of cover.
If you're not convinced, why not use both systems - do a car insurance
comparison and get a direct
car insurance quote too (for example from M&S, our most popular
direct car insurance UK provider). You can then decide whether or not
paying a bit more is warranted when you see what you're getting for
each respective price.
