Low Cost Motor Insurance at the Car Insurance
Supermarket
Most people these days are
well aware of price comparison sites (also called aggregators). These
services, indeed, are the first choice for most drivers when they seek
low cost motor insurance in the UK. But should aggregators be so
popular or are the UK public being overly cavalier in their
insurance-buying choices?
In fact, a good case for the latter can be made. Almost invariably when
consumers buy any other product with a sizeable price tag, they do not
treat price as the only determinant of product selection. How many
people would buy a new TV purely on the basis of price without
considering picture quality, whether it is HD-ready and numeorus other
features before buying? Precious few, yet this common sense approach is
jettisoned by many when they buy low
cost motor insurance.
Of course, there is a difference. If you buy poor quality low
cost motor insurance cover, you will get away with it if you don't have
an accident in the next year. Whereas, you are stuck with a poor TV
every time.
However, this approach amounts to a gamble on never needing to claim,
surely an unsatisfactory criterion on which to purchase cover, that,
after all, is purchased in order to cover you adeqautely if you do have
a need to claim on your low
cost motor insurance policy.
Of course, you are not duty-bound to buy the cheapest quote when you
obtain low
cost motor insurance through an aggregator; so the opportunity to build
in your own quality control exists, and, to be fair, many take it,
perhaps selecting the third least expensive quote, for example, because
it is associated with the driver's minimum cover requirements.
However, price comparison sites usually don't make it easy to compare
policies and if you do have a farily feature-rich low
cost motor insurance policy in mind, you will need to do a fair bit of
digging around to find a policy that's right for you.
So where does this leave the UK motorist looking for a bargain price
but who does accept that quality of cover is important? Well, it
depends on your exact standpoint, but the more that quality of cover
features in your requirements, the more that going direct makes sense.
Certainly, if you do use a car insurance
comparison system, you should always
check the cover associated with each low
cost motor insurance schedule before opting for that policy.
