M&S Money started out as St Michael Financial Services in 1985,
changing its name in 1988 to Marks & Spencer Financial Services
which became a plc in 2002. Its trading name was changed to M&S
Money the following year but it was not until M&S Money was sold in
2004 to HSBC - that has maintained the 'M&S Money' trading name -
that they added car insurance to the financial services provided.
The M&S Money executive committee continues to comprise of equal
numbers of Marks & Spencer and HSBC representatives; so M&S
maintains input to their brand identity.
With more than 100m
customers across the world, the HSBC Group is one
of the biggest financial services providers globally. As their strong
performance through the international banking crisis demonstrated, the
HSBC Group is one of the most strongly capitalised and liquid banks in
the world.
M&S Money employs more 1,500 staff in Chester, where they actively
support the local community via charity and voluntary work.
M&S car insurance is administered by the Budget Insurance Group
that uses a panel of insurance providers to provide a brokerage
function. As well as achieving 'recommended car insurance provider'
status from Which? consumer magazine, the M&S car insurance premier
cover also won a 5 star rating from the Defaqto independent research
organisation.
