Car Insurance Rates from the Car Insurance
UK Supermarket
To determine the car
insurance rates for your motor car, you broadly have two ways to go,
one or both of which you can pursue.
If you want to check 1000s of car insurance rates, the only way to do
this is online via a price comparison site, which is also known as an
aggregator service. We list several above which you can click through
to if you so wish. The top one is the most favoured choice of all here,
which has been the case ever since we added it to our direct services
some years ago. Its continuing use by return visitors here would
suggest that people are pleased with its ease of use and the
cost-savings it provides.
If you are less concerned with checking lots of quotes but are more
inclined towards identifying quality cover, than going direct to a
leading insurance company to check their car insurance rates is a good
choice. The industry is competitive and this drives down prices. The
leading brands rarely differ hugely on car insurance rates nowadays
when comparing like for like. This, funnily enough, is partly an effect
of these companies trying to out-compete each other on price on
aggregators. This consumer value effect, of course, remains even when
you go direct.
Those interested in knowing what they are buying, that is, exactly what
their policy includes and excludes, can struggle to get the information
they need in sufficient detail from an aggregator. This is not a reason
to chance it, however, and proceed in ignorance with the cheapest car
insurance rates you can find. Those policies with the cheapest car
insurance rates have to leave some things out to reduce prices. You
need to know what. Go to the company's website or even make a call if
you are in doubt. Again, if you go direct, you can get all the
information you need online as the full policy schedule can be
scrutinised.
In our view, perhaps because price comparison sites are so heavily
promoted, the nation, almost without quite noticing it, has bought into
the myth - because that is what it is - that price is the only
important consideration in making your selection. In their defence,
albeit largely driven by the insurance regulator, the FSA, which has
been looking into this, recently price comparison sites have tried to
redress this balance somewhat by working harder to help people
determine how well the policies generated match their requirements.
