Car Insurance News Round-Up - Feb 2011
As
ever, you can read more on these and other news stories in our blog. So, what are the big car insurance news stories
at the moment? Here's our pick of the current key issues in UK car
insurance:
Rising cost of car insurance
Having increased
by a third in 2010, car insurance prices will continue to increase
in 2011. The hardest hit will be young drivers that can expect a further
25% increase in 2011. We've outlined the 15
causes of rising car insurance prices and have also looked at some
of the key ways to reduce
these costs. For a fuller picture, you can consult our industry
report, Car
Insurance in the UK, the Road Ahead.
Insurance
Fraud Clampdown
In a series of articles on car
insurance fraud, we recently reviewed the various types of car
insurance fraud and what's
being done to combat them. As we presented in our buyers guide
article, honesty
now essential, car insurance providers are starting to conduct
routine checks to clampdown on, in particular, fraudulent car insurance
applications.
Young Drivers
Risk
In our recent 'young
drivers' article series, we looked at young drivers from the
perspective of risk reduction and the cost of car insurance, areas that
are closely linked. There is much that can be done in both of these
areas as we outline in the article series 'action
plan'. As we've explored in our blog, We agree with the
government
stance on key car insurance issues,
much of this is being looked at by the current government.
The
Jackson Report Debate
Critical to the future cost of car
insurance, the Jackson Report recommendations are currently
centre-stage at the Ministry of Justice as the government consults on
them for a proposed green paper. Our detailed Jackson
Report review explains what Jackson is proposing, while a recent
editorial, The
Jackson debate: proposed green paper, explains where this debate
has currently reached.
