| 5 April (source: in-house) Comprehensive Car Insurance The route to UK comprehensive car insurance that most drivers will choose to pursue is to buy their cover via an automated quote comparison system in order to easily compare car insurance quotes so that they can then reduce the cost of their premium by selecting budget car insurance cover. How interested people are in the cover they're getting by this means varies considerably. There are those that buy comprehensive car insurance cover based on price alone. Others pay some attention to the policy features, but it's limited to what the price comparison site tells them, which is not a great deal. Few will consult the individual car insurers' websites to see exactly what they are getting, arguably the only properly informed way to proceed when using a car insurance comparison site. Then there are those that haven't taken to using a price comparison site to get comprehensive car insurance in the first place. There are also others that have returned to going for direct car insurance quotes, having found use of a price comparison system to be unsatisfactory. Reasons for going direct for car insurance include: the desire to get better quality cover that is less easy to find via a price-focused service; a past discrepancy between the price quoted by the comparison system and the price paid; attractive policy features or deals offered by direct comprehensive car insurance providers; specialist needs, for instance, woman car insurance; a desire to use a tried and tested insurance brand; or other brand-loyalty factors such as multi-car discounts. The routine use of a car insurance comparison site - seen by many as the only way to get a competitive quote - puts too much emphasis on price and too little emphasis on quality of cover. Most drivers are well aware that the only way to make any insurance product cheap is to reduce costs to the insurance company in an accident (and so pass them back to the consumer) but, it seems, the opportunity to save money on the renewal quote is simply too enticing despite this fundamental shortcoming. In reality, if you go for direct comprehensive car insurance from a major car insurer, you won't pay too much for what you're getting due to the competitive pricing requirements brought about by everyday market forces. car
