Young Persons Car Insurance
If you want to buy
cheap young driver insurance right now, we would
recommend going to our article on young
drivers car insurance in our
'Buyers Guide' section that offers
the most useful advice on this.
When you need to buy
young persons car insurance, it can be a daunting task given the high
price of insuring this agegroup of driver. There are some ways to
reduce this cost which we present here. Clearly, the more of these that
you can put in place, the better.
The truth of the matter is that if you have the wrong car, you'll
struggle to keep down the cost of your cover. Too many young people do
not give enough thought to the cost of insurance before buying their
first car.
The car insurance industry makes no secret of the car insurance group
ratings of any car - you can easily look them up - so there is no
excuse to not knowing in advance of purchase whether you are buying a
car that's economic to insure or not.
The lower the car insurance group, the better, for low cost young persons car insurance. It really is sensible
to aim for a car insurance group one car as your first choice of car,
at least until you are able to build up some no claims bonus. There are
plenty of acceptable first-time cars in car insurance group one, such
as, for example, a Corsa.
Next, leave it alone! Don't add fancy trims or alloy wheels that render
your car attractive to a thief, so pushing up your premium. That does
not apply to security improvements, of course. Retailers can advise
about currently available systems that will reduce the cost of young persons car insurance without breaking the
bank.
Other security arrangements to reduce the price of young persons car insurance relate to where your car
is parked. Street parking is the worst, locked garage is best, while
off-road and preferably behind a locked gate, are intermediate
adjustments.
Many young people will increase they Excess to reduce the premium of young persons car insurance but if you do so, you
are accepting this cost in an accident.
The type of policy, of course, has a major impact. An elderly car,
worth less than the excess, could be insured via third party car
insurance. However, this is always inadvisable as you have no cover for
personal injury or injury to your passengers if you are at fault for
the accident or you are hit by an uninsured driver.
Thus, you should always select comprehensive young persons car insurance cover, but this does not
mean that a pragmatic choice of relatively basic cover is not a good
choice.
The latter point does render price comparison sites especially useful
for this group as a good way to slash the cost of young persons car insurance.
Other interventions for low cost young
persons car insurance are to add an over-25 year old as a second driver
(but you should not make them the primary driver if they are not), cap
your annual mileage where appropriate and - if you have the stamina,
resources and interest - to pass an advanced driving test to render
yourself lower risk to insurance companies.
