Young Person Car Insurance
If you want to buy
cheap young driver insurance right now, we would
recommend going to our article on young
drivers car insurance in our
'Buyers Guide' section that offers
the most useful advice on this.
For any individual under the age of 25, the task of finding affordable
young person car insurance can present quite a problem. It's a real
headache trying to get car insurance at a reasonable price.
That's why it's essential to do all that you can yourself to reduce the
cost of that cover. We therefore look at what measures are available to
you to reduce the price of your policy. While some of these will not be
possible to apply in your individual case, the more of the below
'boxes' that you can tick, the lower your young person car insurance quote will be.
The car itself, of course, is the most significant component. It's
essential to be modest in your car choice to avoid your young person car insurance costing a fortune.
Before the 1-20 car insurance rating system was abandonned, we used to
suggest always getting a small, group one car such as a Corsa. While
the cars to get have not changed they now occupy car insurance groups
from 1-8 according to the new 1-50 Thatchem car insurance group rating.
You should also avoid upgrading your car, with, for example, alloy
wheels as this will increase you young
person car insurance premium.
An upgrade that is worth doing, however, for a lower young person car insurance price is to fit a Thatchem approved security devide to
render your car less of an insurance risk. Your car dealer will be able
to advise you on appropriate devices.
Clearly, if you can improve your parking security, this will help too.
Garaged is best while off-road is better than on-road.
While it is unlawful to have a parent 'front' your policy by pretending
that they are the primary driver when they are not, you can add an
over-25 year old to your young
person car insurance polciy as a second driver and this can reduce the
price. Fronting is a risky approach as it invalidates your cover.
If you don't drive a lot of miles per year, cap your annual mileage.
Often under-25s increase their voluntary excess to cut down their young person car insurance but you would, of course,
then have to pay more yourself in an accident.
Another key approach is to be ruthless in your willingness to jetison
any features that you can manage without. The typical low cost young person car insurance policy is very
much a 'no frills' policy and, while you shouldn't go for the cheapest
price regardless of the cover you get, it does pay to be practical.
While not for everyoen, some young people even go to the extent of
taking an advanced drivers test. As this increases their driving skill
level, car insurers will reognsie this in determining the premium.
Naturally, using a price comparison system to compare as many quotes as
you can will also help you o find the most competitive young person car insurance price. Endsleigh
Insurance, the youn person's specialist is also worth a look.
Quite a lot you can do then, but, for reasons reviewed elsewhere on
this site,we do not advise third party only cover.
