Gocompare checks over 80 car insurance companies and brokers. Their result for your car therefore represents the best of hundreds of car insurance policies. Only one other price comparison service, Moneysupermarket, checks more insurers with one form.
Included in their panel of insurance companies are many well-known companies. These insurance services are FSA-registered (sooon to be regulated by the CPMA) meaning that they are all centrally regulated for added peace of mind.
One useful and unique feature of the Gocompare system is their five star rating system. This enables you to specify the policy features that you are looking for. For example, if you specify that you want personal accident cover, any policy that does not offer this will lose one star. Only polices that meet all your requirements (or more) get 5 stars. This is particularly useful given that some policies are cheap because many features have been removed - features that are often 'standard' in most policies. Given that many price comparison sites provide only a price without further information on policy features, this is clearly a step in the right direction.
Like other price comparison services, the Gocompare aggregator service is free to use and their site is attractive and easy to navigate.
Is there a down side? As with all aggregator services, you do not get all the policy information you may wish. However, the Gocompare 5 star system does go a long way towards mitigating against this effect.
Do we recommend Gocompare? Overall, yes, we believe they provide a good service.
